By Popular Demand...

Okay...I'm not sure if this was really necessary, in fact, I'm almost certain it wasn't. I know my moms are lesbians who live in Takoma Park and all, but RAINBOW TIE-DYED SOCKS?!? One day I'll be big enough to refuse these silly indulgences my mommies can't seem to resist.

Gotta Love These Alternative Families...

I was thinking today about what a lucky guy I am. I was particularly thinking about this photograph that Michelle took for Julio before he leaves for his round-the world trek. (Tio Julio...my mommies and I are going to miss you very much!) I love the whole idea of my mommies and I posing with their beloved friend & my 'biological uncle.' Julio pointed out how in some ways the photo captures the essence of our family; my mommies are looking at me while he is looking at the camera. Or maybe that's just because Tio Julio loves to be the center of attention. Wait a minute... I'm supposed to be the center of attention! Me, me, everyone look at me!

We're very lucky to have wondeful people in both our families of origin and our families of choice. And, I'm very lucky that my mommies' choice of my 'biological uncle' might mean that I get to become a Brazilian citizen!!

One more photo credit for the wonderful Michelle Frankfurter!

My first bath!

Okay, so I'm still deciding how I feel about baths. I can't say it was too bad; getting washed off with warm water is kind of fun. But, I don't really understand why some parts of my body have to stay out of the water--it gets so cold. And while the molded plastic thing may help my mommies keep me in the position that they want me in, how would you feel about sitting on tilted molded plastic with some wet bits poking out into the cold air?

But, my mommies seem much happier now that I've been washed off, I guess they thought I was dirty. And they seem particularly happy that my hair is clean and soft.

I wonder how often they'll make me do this. And when does the fun part come with the splashy bath toys and rubber duckies?

Finally, TJ

My TJ, My Marina!! Yea! They came over to play tonight :-) Just a few pics...and a video with TJ!

I'm awfully sleepy and it's time for bed. And, if I'm tired, you just gotta think about how my mommies are feeling! But before I head up to my bassinet, just wanted to send a big shout out to Sandy, Meryl, and Laura for coming over tonight with yummy food (which, sadly, no one shared with me), good conversation, and helpful bonsai tips...

TJ, TJ, where are you?!?

Picture alert, video alert... it's been brought to my attention that I have no pictures with my favorite TJ. This must be remedied immediately. I do have one or two with my very wonderful Marina, but TJ is remarkably absent from my photo and video collection. This lamentable absence is despite the fact that TJ and Marina rescued my mommy Mindy with food while mama Melissa was in labor...and then stayed until the wee hours of the morning and returned again before dawn to see me just after I was born. And TJ had the camera (and the pacifier) during the bris, so she took the pictures of everyone else! Come over and play soon!

Photo galleries

I added a link for photo galleries over to the right. Right now there is just one...from my first two weeks (and by the way, today is my two week birthday!!) Make sure to check it out, and watch for more soon.

New tricks...

Today and yesterday I learned some new tricks. Yesterday my mama Melissa put me on my belly and I didn't like it. I wriggled and wriggled and wriggled, and finally I flopped myself over onto my back. Startled the hell out of myself. Not sure I'll do that anytime soon again.

But, I also realized something today--those flailing things in front of me are my hands, and I can do things with them. Things like grab my Mommy Mindy's finger and pull it out of my mouth when I'm ready to eat something better than just a finger. It's amazing how well that worked! Milk arrived moments after pulling that dry finger out of my mouth.

All of my books say that I don't have enough coordination to do either of these things deliberately yet, but it was fun to do them, even if it was by accident!

My crazy mommies also keep taking pictures and videos. What's that about?!? And, look what they did to me yesterday when they took me out for a walk--I like the baby Bjorn, but the mosquito netting? Is that really necessary?

And here's my newest video--whaddya think, Levi Fox is a great name for a movie star, right?

My videos

I have a few videos online now. I'm sure my mommies will continue to post more soon. If you click on the picture it will take you to another site where the video will play. Make sure to come back here to post any comments.
(These videos will work in Explorer 6.0 and Netscape 7.2. They didn't work in my version of Firefox. I haven't checked other browsers.)

Here's me feeling happy with Uncle Julio.

Here's me feeling mad with Uncle Julio.

And, here's me with my Bubby Lynne.

Finally, a kind of silly one of me and Mama Melissa right in the middle of eating.

My Bris

Today was my bris. I did pretty well--cried a lot less than I do when someone changes my diaper. The mohel was Rabbi Henschel, and he said a lot of nice things, but what I liked the most was when my Bubby Lynne, my Zadie David, and my Uncle Julian talked about the grandmothers that I am named after. Lots of wonderful people who love me and who I will learn to love came to witness the bris and fill the room with joy, warmth, and support. My mommy's friend (and hopefully my new friend), Michelle, was great and made sure that I have wonderful photos of a very special and moving day.
